Barcelona swimming pools are all over the city. All the sports related to swimming are very popular in Barcelona. There are several National League water-polo teams, both male and female. Synchronised swimming is very strong in this part of Spain too. Apart from private pools on hotel roof-tops, there are many public pools across the city. There are indoor and outdoor pools. Some are the normal rectangle types, but the city has two lake pools and a seawater pool in the Forum.
Of course if you just want a dip, then there are 9 beaches on the Mediterranean to choose from. Being topless is allowed on all of them, but if you want to go further then Sant Sebastia & Mar Bella are the two designated nudist zones.
All beaches have lifeguard cover and you should respect the flags at all times.
Barcelona has hosted the 1992 Olympics (you can swim in the diving pool) and the 2013 F.I.N.A. World Championships. Each year the Mare Nostrum swimming circuit visits the city for two days in June. You can watch some of the best swimmers in the world compete against each other. Sant Andreu swimming club is the host.
If you really like to try something different, how about booking a special visit to the Aquarium. Here you can put on a wetsuit and go swimming with the sharks!
Top TipGetting away from the beaches at Barceloneta and Port Olympic will mean a lot less people. The pool in the old quarry at the Parc de la Creueta del Coll is definitely worth the trip if you are looking for something a little different!
