MNAC Montjuic is the Catalonia National Art Gallery. It is housed in the 50.000m² National Palace. The building was constructed for the 1929 Expo and the central dome was modelled on St Peters in The Vatican. Significantly it is most famous for the world renown collection of Romanesque mural painting. Because it is totally unique and there is nothing else like it on the planet.

the six spaces

Additionally to Medieval Romanesque Art, there are six other permanent areas in MNAC Montjuic. Specifically they are: Medieval Gothic Art, Renaissance and Baroque Art, Modern Art, Drawings, Photography and Numismatics.

Also there are always some temporary exhibitions to visit. They have an additional entry charge. This summer (2022) there are ‘Turner, Light is Colour‘ and ‘Benet Rossell Donation. Writings and journeys‘.

Furthermore you can also explore the building itself, including the Oval Room, the Staircase of Honour and the Òleum Restaurant.

top tip

The MNAC Montjuic roof top is a great place for spectacular views of the city. In the summer it doubles as a cocktail lounge. Friday and Saturday night’s you can get in for free (via a sidedoor) between 8pm and midnight!
