X-Games Arrival

Apart from the Olympics in 1992, the 2013 ESPEN X-Games marked the first major international ‘extreme sports’ event to be held in Barcelona. It featured skateboard, BMX, Freestyle Motocross and Rally Car in 16 disciplines.

Although it was a one time event, it spawned ‘Extreme Barcelona‘ an annual event held in Port Forum.  The sports vary each year, but it is massively popular and is shown live on TV.

not so far

Just a short 2 hour journey north from Barcelona gets you to the Pyrenees mountain range, separating Spain from France and enveloping the tiny independent principality of Andorra. With peaks reaching nearly 3000m, there is dome fabulous skiing and boarding to be had.

The Free Ride World Tour and FIS regularly hold events in the regions ski resorts. Arcalis, Baqueira-Beret and La Molina.

In the summer months the whole region becomes a mecca for free-running and climbing.

For Mountain Bikers there are many trails in the Collserola park in the hills behind the city and just a short hop to the excellent facilities at the BMX track and Downhill trail at Sant Andreu de la Barca.

in the city

For those of you just starting out Barcelona has several ‘official’ skateparks and rinks, but what draws the crowds are the ‘unofficial’ spots like the plaza in frontt of MACBA, which is famous for attracting skateboarders.

There is a wake-board centre in Port Forum and another at the Olympic Canal,  just outside the city.
